Cynthia Catania, Saucy Monky
Cynthia Catania
Singer-songwriter Cynthia Catania began her career in the New York independent music scene. She co-wrote and co-produced the title track of a compilation cd for WDHA with guitarist and brother Jeff Catania, which highlighted New Jersey's best-unsigned bands. Their single "Light 'em Up", became a top request on WDHA and found its way to the soundtrack of the Jeff Bridges film, "See You In The Morning". The success of "Light 'em Up" also led to Cynthia's headlining performances at The Bitter End, The China Club and at the famed CBGB's in New York city.

After deciding to take on LA, Cynthia made her debut at The Troubadour as an invitee on the NAS showcase (National Academy of Songwriters), which was quickly followed by a year-long stint as background singer on the "Larry Sanders show". While working at Image Recording, Cynthia formed her first LA project, The Sugar Junkies and subsequently wrote and produced the band's independent EP. The release attracted the attention of documentary filmmaker Troy Okoniewski, who featured Cynthia and The Sugar Junkies in his film, "Itch".

Shortly thereafter, Cynthia went solo, joined SESAC and began making solo appearances at local institutions such as The Mint, The Gig Hollywood and House of Blues - Sunset Strip. Cynthia recently formed her independent record label, olivoiL records, and released her self-titled debut. Produced by Tad Wadhams (Farm Dogs, Sheryl Crow), the album blurs the lines between pop, alternative and Americana.

In August 2000, Cynthia began promoting her well received & respected "olivoiL IndieNight" series. A night of underground music, comedy and community, the sold-out series is now gearing up for its 7th event. Indienight 6 highlights featured the talents of Colin Hay, Adrianne, and MC Charity James.

In the fall of 2001, Cynthia teamed up with singer/songwriter AnnMarie "Montade" Cullen and formed a new band called Saucy Monky. The song writing team brings harmony-driven, pop-fused rock to a new and exciting level. Reminiscent of U2 meets the Pretenders, Saucy Monky recently released their debut CD Celebrity Trash on olivoiL records (March 7th, 2003).
