1. Name?
Chandler Darren Kinchla (The last name is Gaelic Irish: Originally spelled Kinslough. Don't ask how my ancestors came up with this Americanized version, but it's not my fault. I blame the immigration officer's sick sense of humor.
2. Age? Birthday?
I was born May 29th, 1969 in Hamilton, Ontario. My parents gave me the tapestry I was conceived on. I think they were hippies.
3. Where were you born?
I was born in Hamilton, Ontario. My father always said he was there teaching psychology, however I like to think he was dodging the draft. I moved down to Princeton, New Jersey when I was three months old.
4. Schooling history? Where and what?
I proudly earned my high school diploma. I was looking forward to a long college career at NYU. That dream was cut short after one semester. After eleven straight gigs in a row during midterms I decided to leave higher education to those people who slept.
5. Favorite bands and influences?
In the beginning I was a punk-rock, new wave disciple. Once the bar chords were big enough became a little limiting I was inspired by Ten Years After's performance from Woodstock and dove headlong into drug fueled acid rock and never looked back. After that I have decided that all styles of music are great as long as the music is great. Be-bop jazz and psychedelic techno are my current favorites. And, since moving to LA, Hip-hop.
6. Instrument for BT? How long have you played it?
I play guitar for Blues Traveler. Occasionally I pretend to play other instruments on records or yell, but lets leave it at guitar.
7. When did you join BT? Any other bands you played in? How long? Where?
I joined "Blues Band," as they were called at the time, in the Spring of '86. Until that time my only band experience had been with a band called "The Extreme" who's only accomplishment outside of Sanjay Kanna's basement was playing for his mother's Birthday in the back yard. Since joining Blues Traveler I have had the pleasure of playing with a string of great musicians along with Bobby Sheehan under the moniker of "Is This For Real" or "High Plains Drifter" as well as with Jono Manson. These side projects originally blossomed out of the urge Bob and I had to play while on vacation in Colorado. Some of the line-ups turned into real mini-tours and also culminated into Jono Manson's album Almost Home.
